Heather White moved to Colorado in 1974 from upstate NY (Binghamton) to go to graduate school at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she had been offered a teaching assistantship. She received her undergraduate degree from Ithaca College and her Masters' degrees from CU (Boulder). Heather always thought that she would return to NY, but once she saw the blue skies, experienced the moderate temperatures, and found out that real skiing was about powder and not about ice, she knew that she had found a new home.
Heather started her teaching career at Fairview High School in Boulder, where she taught and coached swimming for 2 years before moving to Hygiene Elementary School in Longmont. She spent the next 28 years teaching there until 2004 when she retired. The proudest moment of her life was when the gymnasium there was named after her ("The Heather White Gymnasium"). Heather also coached the Boulder Elks Swim Team for 20 years, and retired from coaching in 1996 when JD, her son, decided to swim year-round.
She has always loved real estate and grew up immersed in it. Heather is a 3rd generation Realtor. Both of her parents were Realtors and Brokers, as was her grandfather (an Irish immigrant). She became a licensed Realtor in August, 2000, and over-lapped careers for 4 years while learning the ropes. When JD graduated from SMU in 2006, they decided to venture out on their own as business partners and started their own company, White & White Realty.
Heather completed her first short sale (see our blog if you're not sure what that is!) in September 2004 trying to help some folks who had been taken advantage of by a predatory lender. She found it to be the most frustrating thing she had ever done, and realized she knew nothing about it (nor did the mortgage company!). BUT, it captured her interest because she found that she could combine real estate with one of the things that is most important to her in her life -helping others. Heather has spent the last 4 years learning everything that she could about short sales and is now considered one of the foremost experts in the field (which was groundbreaking at the time!)
Heather has 1 son, JD, who is her business partner. She is married to Terry, who owns Pro Drywall and is the NASCAR driver of the #01 Grand American Modified. They have 2 dogs, George the Chihuahua and Josie the Australian Shepherd, 1 Pixie Bob cat named Aspen, and 2 parrots, Lucy and Pete. In addition to real estate (which she loves!), Heather also finds time to bowl in a league with her "old" teacher friends, work out on her Wii Fit, and jet ski in the summer when she and Terry have time around racing.
